Welcome to the S.O.M. Guestbook. Stop by and leave a comment for Don & Dave.
I heard about your guitar plight from Talk Radio show host Neil Bortz. My father struggled for years to learn to play and I know when he passed away we made it an effort to give that beloved guitar to someone that would treasure it. The value of the guitar is not in the wood and steel! But you know that. I sought out the video after hearing a teaser amount of it on Neil's show and loved it. We live in Kerrville, TX,the home of the Kerrville Folk Festival. A long standing tradition that was started in 1972. I hope to hear your music live some day because your music has a magic that is not often found. Keep up the good work and we hope to catch you in Austin or even closer! In the mean time we are going to have to order some of your CDs from your web site!
Will you ever make it to tour in the UK?
Sad to say, I had never heard your music before either. I loved the "United Breaks Guitars" song 1 & 2 so much I sought out your website. You have a voice and style that touches the heart. Thanks, I'm sure you have gained many new fans. You have one in me. Come to Utah some time...
Just loving your music and really looking forward to part three of the United Airlines Saga. Can't believe I had not heard of Sons of Maxwell prior to United Breaks Guitars. Keep the great music coming.
I've just received Perfect Blue and Sunday Morning. Thanks, Sharon for such a superfast delivery - order to receipt (in Australia) in a week. Great service.
I want you guys to know that I absolutely love both these cd's. I love your musicianship; the wording is particularly appealing, and your vocals are a delight because I can hear and understand every word!! (I'm 70 years of age, so that's important to me, and rare.) The arrangements are just great too. I simply love the whole package. Thanks so much.... these discs are now my constant companions at home and in the car. Very best of luck to you all in the future.
Great. This is very nice.
Hey boys, I am an old fan from your bar singing days, just rediscovered the "Among the Living" CD, forgot how great is was, however nothing tops "the Lighthouse" in my books.
Just wondering if we will get any samples of Don's solo project.
Dave you keep us laughing and crying, what could be better than that
Fantastic video & song! I work for a major carrier & received the video tonight in a long list of FWD. I was smiling the whole time. Well done! Bravo! I had never heard of you before tonight, so perhaps this was your lucky "break" ... sorry, guitar... I mean TAYLOR guitar. ;-)
My son sent the links for the united songs and your website because of my frustration with Delta's baggage claim and even private trip insurance. My loss was about 1/6th of yours , but the airlines do not discriminate. The private insurers also do their best to avoid paying. Our stories are incredibly similar.
I had a great laugh and realized that spinning my wheels only increased my BP and laughter lowered it! It also assuaged my broken spirit to see you get ahead!
Loved songs 1 and 2 , waiting for 3
Best of luck!
I am very excited to be introduced to you and your music. I am sorry to tell you, I had not heard you before reading the story of "the broken guitar".
I was fascinated reading of your music influences. Many of them are familiar to me and have remained favorites.
I like your sound very much and was so happy to be able to buy from your website.
I wish you much success.
Greetings from Brisbane, Australia.
Love you and love your music.
Come visit some time.
Okay...I am sitting in a hotel in Cyprus and you were just on CNN worldwide.
Not only is the song great, but it showcases your talent very well.
I have a venue for you in Atlanta when you are ready to head south - check out Eddie's Attic.
Just bought two CDs of yours.
Will be listening to you for a long time to come.

Do you have any plans to release this song commercially?
It was the most moving song you played by far at Intrado (Longmont, CO) on 10/21/2009.
You guys are amazing! I'm so glad that I got to experience your music and sit with Don at lunch! What an amazing guy you are and an amazing band! Your music is so pure it just pulled me in right away. Thanks for coming to Colorado guys! Hope you do again!
Don & Dave,
Came across you on the net....forgot what I was originally looking for and fell in love with you guys and your music.
Have to have some of your CD's soon.
All the best, Merilyn
I would just like to say "Hi Guys" from me in Australia.
Found your site, love your music and now a fan so will be asking for some of your CD's on my Christmas list that's for sure.
All the best, Merilyn
when are you coming to Winnipeg?
So, my sister said to me the other day, "Oh no, we missed Sons of Maxwell this summer. We should have gone!"
So I said you're often here around the birthday celebration of Mister Keith, so we looked up your tour dates. I'm sad to see there are no dates in or anywhere near Calgary on your schedule at all.
Please come back soon.
love your music especially Queen of Argyle and Tell My Ma. Uniter breaks Guitars was very good also. I would have bought your entire collection but I don't use PayPal. You might want to check out CDBaby, https://members.cdbaby.com/default.aspx. the largest seller of independent music.
if you are interested in coming to Dallas Texas I can get you a list of venues and contacts for celtic music.
It was great meeting you and the Sons of Maxwell today at the airport. It was very kind of you to give me the autographed CD. "United Breaks Guitars" is brilliant, so clever and witty and funny. I'm so sorry about the events that led to your writing it, but so happy that you've turned it around and gotten a big hit song (or two or three) out of the experience.
I've been viewing your songs on YouTube and you've got a very talented group. I hope you get all the success you deserve. I also hope to hear you play at a Chicago area venue some time soon.
So happy that i was pointed to the United Breaks Guitars video as it introduced me to your music, 3 CDs bought so far!! Love the sound, look forward to hearing more of your music. Hope you make it out to California some time soon.
Hi Don and Dave
First, the United Songs rock, they really hit home down under as our ground crews are shocking at the best of times.
Love the music, both the solo's and the Sons of Maxwell stuff. I really want to know is your Dad actually Maxwell???
Stay true to the music, its great
Warwick, Southern Downs, Qld, Australia
Since finding out about you only a few weeks ago, I now own about everything you have recorded to date. You guys are fantastic! I have been searching for a purchasable copy of "Tell My Ma" with no success... is there anywhere I can buy a copy of that recording?
Thanks as well, to "Mom" for her excellent customer service in filling large orders of cd's !
I had to write and tell you how much my husband & I enjoyed your Saturday evening performance at Irish Fest. Though we're a bit older than your usual crowd, (my husband's 61, I'm 56). We had as much fun as all the young people down in the front rows. The talent of both of you, and the band, made for an outstanding show. But what really left us both shaking our heads as we left that night, were the beautiful lyrics of the songs. We knew we had just seen something very special and rare. The Unity cd is great and I just ordered the Perfect Blue cd. I hope you'll be coming back to the Milwaukee area soon. Like the beautiful Mr.Tanner song you sang. Your music made us feel whole.
Jim & Linda Mulligan
DON and DAVE,
Wow is all I can say........your voices are so blended and yet so wonderfully different. The harmonies you strike against each other often make one's spirit soar with the joy of the song. I am a very appriecitive fan of Irish music and hear echoes of my own Irish roots reverberating in the drum, song lyrics, and harmonies of your music. My dear sister, who also loves a good Irish reel, turned me onto you and I am gonna buy every album I can lay my hands on (suggestions as to where I can obtain them is appreciated--the new ones are here but I don't see your older stuff).
Dave.......the song "Now" has special meaning to me. Almost ten years ago I was severly injured and left in a wheelchair......I made my way out of it but still have a number of handicapps. I had thought I had delt with the pain and put it behind me but something in the gentle lyrics and flowing melody made me realize I need to concentrate on the Now and put the Then behind me. For that I thank you.
I live quite some distance from you guys but I wanted to let you know if you ever wanted to come hang out here in Mobile Alabama on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico then I would love to see the SOM kicking it up down south. Bring shorts and a T-shirt cause you wont be needing a coat.
Keep happily writing, singing, and playing guys! Don't let the road burn you out or jade you one bit.........we are listening...the road doesn't, can't, and never will..........we always will.
I am a Brazilian fan. I have seen the video "United Breaks Guitar" and just I loved! From this moment I have heard some musics and movies, looking for know more about you. And every time I like more and more you. I became a great fan, because of your talent, success an intelligence. And your creativity is wonderful. Congratulations. You obtained one more new people that loves your work. I am right that you will be shine more and more....Don`t stop of make the better, because you are the best!!!!
Many kisses and good luck,
You bring the Maritime music home where ever i hang my hat
PLEASE POST UPCOMING DATES FOR TOURS!!
ESPECIALLY ONTARIO!! BUT HAVE SUITCASE....WILL TRAVEL!
The Sons of Maxwell have generously allowed us to play their incredible song, The Streetman's Confession on our Peacock Poverty.org website, helping to bring awareness to the plights of homeless and poverty stricken people. I have been a huge fan of SOM for years, every song is downloaded on my ipod and enjoyed daily. I step dance to Oceanside Again (this should be Canada's favorite party song) and also When the Circus Comes to Town is a great song fitting for an East Coast girl who grew up in a circus of many!! Their ballads are heartfelt and meaningful.
The only drawback to all this attention Dave is getting from his new "hit" is that I won't be able to get front row anymore! Maybe Maxwell will pull some strings. ??? This band has everything...music, lyrics, mood and style. I am so proud they are Canadian!!!
Dave, thanks for your United songs - everytime I think of the songs there is a smile on my face. I believe this is because everyone of us had made some naughty experiences with some airline somehow - and everybody knows how lost you are arguing with them.
I really like your idea of having 'The Papas', this shows how you have enjoyed your stay in our nice city of munich - at least you did remember the time.
I am really looking forward to part three, please keep us updated how it goes.
I was introduced to your United Breaks Guitars video and can't stop playing it. Congratulations on delivering such a poignant message to United, congrats for the clever lyrics and catchy musical beat, and more kudos for the hilarious video action to emphasize your point. Very professional work. We weren't familiar with your group here in Connecticut but we are now - and love that music.
I just heard your music on youtube and loved it. As an owner of a beautiful sunburst taylor 814ce, it shakes me to hear these stories ;) Anyway, I ended up here and really like your music (even the christmas album) so a bought a couple cds. You guys are great! thanks for the music.
WOW - your music was AWESOME on Saturday (Aug 22) wished you were playing the whole night. I left this event with my soul enriched with your music. Love you guys - please update your tour site so I can hear you live again. Thanks for the autographed CD - playing it right now.
Big Fan, Rhonda Duhme, Lower Sackville NS
I've got to know you because of the UA songs... It is really a great song!
Today I had the opportunity to hear your song "NOW" which made me thing a lot about my life.
For sure you may be wondering how a woman from Brazil... São Paulo got to know you, but be sure that everybody from airlines business got to know you because of the UA song. My sister posted me an e-mail with a link of Utube with the clip of the song NOW and made me search for you in the net! Thanks God I found your blog!
Well, what I want to say to you that you need to come to Brazil for a tournee and I hope it can be soon.
How can I order your album, cause I think that's no sample here in Brazil!
All my best regards and be sure that I am one of your Brazilian fan!
just watched the video to song #2 - and it is a classic, too. Especially the Tuba gives it that light hearted Sgt. Pepper's feeling. When will the video be available on iTunes for download?
You guys are incredible! Would love to see you perform in person!
Hi Don and Dave,
I just listened to song 2 and it was as great as song 1, a clever and catchy tune. I can't get the song out of my head. I just ordered your Perfect Blue CD off your website. Looking forward to song 3. Thanks for keeping us updated to what United are offering for compensation and hope they will let you know which charity they will donate on your behalf. You need to come to Vancouver to share your talent here. I first heard about you on a local radio station CFUN 1410 when you had put out United Breaks Guitars and am now a big fan..
all the best to you and your family
This message is for Dave.
Went with your #1 Fan and saw you play in Truro, or maybe it was Pictou....you even sang United Breaks Guitars and we (the audience) were told, by purchasing one of your CD's we would also get the single "united breaks guitars"......however you didn't bring enough, so I lucked out and so did your #1 Fan.
Found out that your #1 Fan also got an invite to your private screening of the newest edition to the united "saga" yesterday, and it was also suggested that she might get an appearance in the 3rd video. Oh I agree, she really should be in that video. If for no other reason than sending me a frantic email last year telling me to go check you guys out while you were playing at the Trap and Gill (Calgary). Obviously deserving of the title #1 Fan.....though I have at times used a more descriptive word....teehee (that's between very good friends), she really does love your music, and I have to admit, you and your brother and beautiful voices and are a pleasure to listen to.
Anyways, I'd like the single CD, please. And I'd love to get it autographed too.
I believe you now have my email, but if for some strange reason you don't, it's: email@example.com
Please email me with a ya or a na I can either send you my mailing address or have your #1 Fan come get it, which ever you prefer.....giggle!!
Hi SOM -
wanted to let you know you have another new fan in Phoenix - seems like we're popping up all over the place since your United song hit the airwaves - and #2 is awesome as well - the tuba is perfect! Also want to send kudos to you for your own customer service - how unlike United it is indeed - I sent a message via facebook about the trouble I was having trying to order your songbook and in a matter of minutes I had a response from Johanna even tho it's 2am here which makes it about 5 or 6 am there - and she was great and very helpful and I will get my songbook, after all, it appears! so on all levels, i wish you the very best of success in your public and private lives - your music reminds me a little of John Prine's music - you both write and sing about actual experiences and life stories which resonate hugely with me. Thanks for it all -
Laurie in Phoenix
DEAREST DAVE AND DON,
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
HADN'T IT BEEN FOR THE UBG VIDEO, I WOULD HAVE NEVER DISCOVERED YOU.
DAVE, YOU UNDOUBTEDLY HAVE BECOME VERY FAMOUS, WITH YOUR AMAZING VOICE AND LOOKS!! :-)
BUT I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL 15 AGO ABOUT DON, AS HE DOESNT APPEAR IN THE VIDEO, I HAD NEVER SEEN HIM, BUT THEN I CHECKED FOR OTHER SONGS OF SOM ON YOU TUBE, AND I COULD FINALLY DISCOVER DON, MAN YOU ALSO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL VOICE, I LOVE "THE QUEEN OF ARGYLE", GREAT SONG, GREAT VOICE, GREAT MUSIC, I CAN PLAY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITHOUT GETTING TIRED OF IT, AND BESIDES IT MAKES FEEL LIKE DANCING :-) IT'S PRETTY POWERFUL!!!
I HOPE YOU GUYS CAN EVER MAKE IT DOWN HERE WHERE I LIVE.
LOTS OF LOVE AND GOOD LUCK!!
BILLY (OTHER THAN ELLIOT) FROM MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY, SOUTH AMERICA
PS I WONDER WHY YOU, DON, ARE NOT ON FACEBOOK :-( I COULD NOT FIND YOU...
Hello, the first song i´ve heard of SOM was united breaks guitars,i really like that music and i think SOM is one of the greatest bands i have ever heard!!!!!!
Greetings from Argentina for Don and Dave
Free creative fodder... My 1972 Martin D28 ("You can drive a truck over it") hard-shell gray case still bears the scars of a tarmac free-throw Halifax to Ottawa circa 1975 (nuthin' changes). I was also stuck at O'Hare, with nothin' to wear, had to go bare, they didn't care, it wasn't fair... Hits are 99% Serindipity! Good on ya. :-)
I used to see you guys at O'Learys all the time in Saint John in 1996 and 97. I have been trying to hard to remember this song you used to sing that had actions to it. My friends and I used to do the actions all the time while singing as loud as we could...we loved the song! Can someone help me out with the name of the song...I just can't remember it. All I can remember is something about an alligator!! lol :-)
just wanted to say u are great im from uk and i never heard of u untill the united guitar song on the news came on and looked it up on youtube and i loved it and im not normanly a country music person but i really love oceanside again i play it alot keep up the good work hope u get to play in the uk
I've been following you songs for awhile. My favorite by far is "Whole Lot Lighter"! I introduced your music to a friend of mine who plays in a band with me "Divided highway"! He flew to Sanfran with his taylor guitar on United! I sent him your United Airline song link! I think he's still laughing!
Great writing and Canadian, how do you beat that! Hope to catch your show soon!
Nice song; i read that Uniteds stock value dropped by 10 % and that the PR desaster of the song costs them about 180m US$ ... maybe they learn something from it.
When I fly with an expensive guitar (and I have a few of them), I always take it with me in the cabin. Most of the ground and cabin crews don't know that in the small print of most airline regulations this is allowed! So: In addition to your ticket have always with you an outprint of the luggage regulations. It's always nice to impress counter chicks and cabin crew with their own regulations ... ;-)
Dave, love your United: Song 1 video & your classy attitude! Sure hope your Nebraska tour made up for the flight frustration. I was so taken with your United experience that I wrote about it in my Moms Hugs blog & hope it meets with your approval. Keep writing & singing ballads like 'A Woman Like You' because this world needs a whole lot more love songs to keep us all in balance...
Moms Hugs: From the Middle of the Road in America
If I've had bad experiences ordering online, and would like to avoid it, please tell me if I can do it by phone or mail. If I'm allowed to do that, and have US Dollars, do you still accept my checks/credit card? If all those are still affirmative, how should I proceed? For instance, I want CD's and even a T-SHIRT! (Do you have robes and slippers? For men, for like, gifts?)
Renee, aka MaggieMae
PS Re: my MM name, it's a long story involving my Scottish granddad who liked his rhymes - he should've been a rapper ... 'nuff sed.
